Adventures

The adventures page highlights several of my long-distance backcountry journeys.

1. Great Divide Mountain Bike Route

In 2024, I cycled the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR) along the continental divide from the boot heel of New Mexico to Banff in Alberta, Canada. Taking a leisurely pace, I completed the ride in 57 days. In 2026, I returned to the GDMBR, this time starting in Banff pedaling south to Steamboat Spring. Colorado.

2. Pacific Crest Trail

In 2016, having secured my start in a doctoral program, I headed to California months ahead of it. Walking north from the Mexican border, I weaved through the Sierras and the Cascades to complete 2,000 of the 2,650-mile trail. In 2017, I finished the remaining mileage.

3. Appalachian Trail

In 2003, two years after completing my undergraduate degree, I walked the 2,198-mile trail from Georgia to Maine. The six-and-a-half-month journey introduced me to different cultures, cuisines, and ways of living.
